A little bit of history…
The Sarasota Farmers Market was founded in 1979 by Paul Thorpe and the Downtown Merchants Association. The original mission was to bring foot traffic to Downtown Sarasota.
In 2009, the vendors formed a non-profit organization to bring exposure to local farm growers and also to support other local non-profit organizations.
Today, the market provides spaces free of charge, to over 100 non-profit organizations.
The Sarasota Farmers Market features live music every week. It is a great time for merchants, locals and visitors to share. You will find local fruits, vegetables, plants, food that includes honey, olive oil, seafood, cheese as well as handmade items such as soaps and jewelry. It is also possible to eat and drink on site! Delicious guacamole, acai bowl, pie, empanada, crepes, smoothies and also French bread are available.
